We are located on Mays Rd 2 mins from the highway for easy access. We have 6 foot high fenced pens, 1/2 acre in size each. The dogs will all run together during the day with night time housed in large, wire or Vari style crates in an indoor building.

If you're going away - don't send your dog to a "kennel" - send them on their own vacation! We believe dogs need to run and play, not sit in a cage all day! Give your dog an exciting, stimulating vacation.

Dogs having fun at Cedar Ridge!

An Overnight trial BEFORE boarding your dog-we will assess your dog for temperment with people, other dogs & their behaviour in a crate.

*The trial is in NO way a guarantee that you can book your dog in when you go away-your dog must PASS first. We do not tolerate any problem behaviours and will be picky on who we take, as it is for the welfare of everyone staying at Cedar Ridge. PLEASE BOOK THE TRIAL FAR IN ADVANCE!*

Shots up to date (DHLPP & Bordetella-"kennel cough") Please vaccinate with Bordatella (prefer the Intranasal) at least 4 days prior to stay. We gladly except Titer tests.

Deworming done regularly. We will also except if your dog is dewormed herbally (you must present us with the brand of herbal dewormer)

Your dog MUST be neutered or spayed, unless they are less than 6 months of age.

Be free of parasites, worms, fleas, mites & any other contagious aliment (such as an eye infection)

If your dog is aggressive, whether dominance or fear based, we will recommend training with Sabrina or otherwise before boarding. Most aggression cases can be solved with the proper training and consistency in the dog's life. Due to our open play style set up with NO kennel runs we can not accept aggressive or poor social skills. Your dog must be well socialized with experience and/or comfortable with dogs in a pack-like setting.

Your dog should respond to the command "Come" or "Come here" or his/her name or warmly respond to strange people.

Your dog must be relatively obedient and free of major behavioral disorders (for example: non-stop barking, chewing, digging, fence climber, fence jumper etc). We provide a safe, fun environment for well trained and socialized dogs. We are very selective. Not every dog is suitable for daycare and we don't take any chances. If we have any doubts about a dog's suitability, we turn them away. We also go for quality, not quantity. Our goal is not to fit as many dogs into daycare/boarding as we possibly can. Instead, we want the atmosphere to be relaxed, positive and pleasant!

IF YOUR DOG SOUNDS LIKE HE DOES NOT MEET THE SOCIAL/BEHAVIOURAL ETIQUETTE SEE OUR TRAINING PAGE

Our facility consists of 1/2 acre pens (half grass, half forest) for the dogs to run in together nestled on 27 beautiful acres. Most dogs think this is a great big dog park! No cement pads with rows of barking dogs.

The dogs are outside in the large pens during the day, come in at dinner time for dinner & a rest, then out at bedtime for a romp & potty time, back in all night for bed. They sleep in crates (Vari style or Wire Mesh)

HOLIDAY CLOSURES: Although we will still be caring for our guests, our facility will be closed to the public on all STAT/National Holidays.

Small dogs have their own pen unless they normally play with large dogs and may do so with owner's permission.

Fia:1 yr old Pointer that comes for regular Daycare & training:

"Hi I'm Kathy Jackson and I have a very active German Wire Haired Pointer named Fia. Thanks to Sabrina at Cedar Ridge-dog day care, spa and training center, we have a very happy puppy and a much better behaved dog in our home to love. Sabrina is so helpful and full of ideas; what is best for this dog, what works with this type of dog ect. I have been thrilled with Fia's progress and hope to work on agility next with Sabrina. I can't say enough of how much it has helped to have our puppy at Cedar Ridge, Fia has fun and we reep the benefits at home. Try your dog at the farm, it's a fun social outing for all. Any age dog would benefit from such surroundings. Feel free to call us any time 250-748-8790" Kathy and Fia in Duncan.

Cali:10 month old English Mastiff that comes for training, boarding, daycare & grooming:

"Thanks so much Sabrina, Rob, Colton and the dogs at Cedar Ridge!

Our little English Mastiff, Cali, loves coming to your place whether it’s for the day, a night or a week. As soon as we turn into the drive she gets so excited she starts whapping the windows with that huge tail of hers. It’s so great to know we have a place to take her where she can run around with lots of other dogs in your huge outdoor pens, slobber on her friends, play in a kiddie pool all year round and she’s always entertained when her friend Fia, a German Wire Haired Pointed, is hunting her! We also love getting her groomed after a long stay so we have a nice clean puppy to bring home. The private training you did with us has made such a difference and we must say thanks to Colton for always taking the part of the distraction! Our biggest complement is that we’ve recommended Cedar Ridge to all our friends and family pet owners and even to Barry, a Sheppard owner from Manitoba, that was sitting next to me on the plane. Everyone is always so happy to hear of a great place to take their pets for all their needs ~ Daycare, Boarding, Grooming and Training we’ve done it all and it’s great! A Million Thanks!

Your very happy clients,

Cathy, Guy and Cali of Duncan, B.C.

Kobi the Keeshond: Uses Cedar Ridge for grooming, boarding, daycare & training:

It all started for me about 2 years when I needed to find a new groomer for my 2 Keeshonden (Kobi and Keesha) as their current groomer could no longer groom them because of the strain on her shoulder with all their fur.  So I went looking and found Sabrina and Rob at Cedar Ridge Complete Canine Care.  In my case having double coated dogs required constant brushing almost every second day.

When I started taking my dogs to Sabrina for grooming, we talked about their coats and trying to manage it all without it being such a chore.  Taking Sabrina’s advice I agreed to start having them clipped a bit instead of having the long coats.  The difference was unbelievable and so much easier to maintain.  From grooming we expanded to a number of their other services that they provide, daycare sessions for social mingling, some longer term kennel stays, to using the herbs recommended by Sabrina for my dog Keesha who had a kidney problem.  For about 8 months the herbs worked fantastically, the swelling and heat went down in the area and Keesha seemed to be doing great.  Unfortunately the old girl decided that enough was enough and no longer would take any food with the herbs or any medication in it.  Sadly Keesha had to be put to rest leaving a grieving owner and sister pack mate, which brought new issues.

Kobi started acting out 2 months after Keesha was put down, she no longer would listen to me, would constantly test and would no longer come to me when I called, and would become super stressed and neurotic, very frustrating to deal with.  The best thing I did was to talk to Sabrina about the problems and decided on a course of action of one on one training sessions.  The training was not only for Kobi but for me too, I needed to learn just as much and change the things I was doing wrong and learn how to deal with only one dog now not two.  Kobi and I went for 4 training sessions and we practiced in between the sessions and it has made all the difference.  It was hard because we were trying to change some things that I had done and accepted from her for 10 years.  It was a learning curve for me as much as it was for Kobi.  Kobi is 100% better than she was before – not saying she is perfect, she isn’t, but at 10 years old when we started her training sessions she has done really well.  So for those that say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks, I say yes you can!  Kobi can now be let off her leash and when I call her she stops and comes back.  She will now stay and hold either in a sit or down position for more than 5 to 10 minutes if instructed.  She still gets a bit distracted at times but life is so much better for the both of us.  The training sessions were the best thing I ever did.

Just recently I noticed that Kobi too has swelling in the kidney area and we are starting the herbs and will hope that this extends her life. Kobi is a frisky energetic 10 ½ year old now and I know she has many more years to go.  Thanks to Sabrina I have an alternative way to treat her problem without all the side effects of prescription medication.

As of January 2008 I will be leaving the Cowichan Valley to move up island however I still plan to board Kobi at Cedar Ridge when I go away on long trips.  Every couple of months when Kobi needs a bath and grooming I will be bringing her down for her appointment.   When you find a place you like and trust you don’t want to give it up.

From someone that has utilized a number of the services that Cedar Ridge provides I couldn’t be happier with the treatment both my dogs and I have received over the years.

Thanks Sabrina and Rob,

Michele Porter

Zoe the boxer: Uses daycare, boarding & training at Cedar Ridge. Zoe started showing signs of insecure dominance (common in dogs these days) very early on but we nipped it in the bud pretty quick and she was able to continue attending daycare. Her people did 4 sessions of training with us. Her owner, David, wrote two versions of Zoe's story-very cute!....

Cheeky version:

Boxer Zoe was slipping into the darkness of bad manners when she met Sabrina. She was confused, unsure of her role in life and was starting to crack. An aggressive growl here, an angry box there, rudeness and disregard was threatening to shatter her domestic life. In four easy sessions and with a bit of coaxing from her masters, Sabrina laid out a shiny new path for the little boxer and within months Zoe was happy and content. Now, she sniffs bums and stays away from the bad crowd, she sits and lies on command and she is true example for other lost boxers in the world. Thanks Sabrina!

Non cheeky version:

Sabrina was a life saver - I have a boxer, Zoe, that started life as a show dog and didn't have much socialization. Sabrina taught Zoe how to interact with other dogs and people and just as important, taught me how to interact with Zoe. It was an intensive two month process, but Sabrina's leadership and skill with dogs made it fairly painless. Zoe and I say thanks - ruff ruff.

Jake:4 yr old Golden Lab: Came for boarding with issues of mounting and dog aggression, as well as, no respect for people (NOTE: we no longer accept dogs for boarding without an overnight trial first) Jake is doing amazing in training with us and is welcome back for boarding any time as his issues are subsiding...

"Just wanted to say thanks once again for looking after Jakers, I know it
wasn't the best experience for you. I appreciate all the advice you gave
and look forward to doing some training with you hopefully in December. We
have now had Jakers fixed (neutered) and hopefully with any luck it may calm him a bit.
I hope that you will still consider taking him here and there when needed.
I think your place is great and I would highly recommend you to anyone." and "Thank you so much Sabrina!! I feel so much better knowing that Jakers is going somewhere great while we're away" Daina in Victoria

This section is for clients that have sadly passed on. They are all special to us.

This Rhodesian Ridgeback was a dream to have at our place. Tag came along to do everything on the farm, got along wonderfully with all dogs and slept calmly in our bedroom at night. Sadly he lost his life due to liver disease, he will always hold a special place in our hearts. What a sweet boy.

Max was a Black Lab that lost a leg very young due to being hit by a car. This 3-legged guy did amazing! He kept up with everyone, even for a senior! He loved coming to our farm while his mom went on long trips. Max ended up passing from cancer. We miss the guy who everyone wanted to take home!
